Rigid gift boxes

A greyboard shell wrapped in printed paper, assembled by hand so the lid holds its shape after the third opening. Built for gift sets, cosmetics, spirits and electronics accessories that are judged on the shelf before they are opened.

These are the ranges we actually run, not a catalogue maximum. If your size or board sits outside them, say so and we will explain what changes.

Where a rigid box earns its cost

  • Gift setsTwo or three items that have to arrive in a fixed position
  • CosmeticsShelf presence at a counter where the box is handled daily
  • SpiritsBottle weight needs a board shell, not a folding carton
  • ElectronicsAccessory kits, unboxing content, retail return rates

Where we would advise against it

  • Heavy itemsFill over 5 kg starts to distort a 2.0 mm shell in transit
  • High volume, low marginAbove roughly 20,000 pcs a folding carton is usually the better buy
  • Courier-only routesWhere the outer carton takes the damage, don't pay for a shell
  • Every-week artwork changesEach wrap change re-opens the print run; cartons are cheaper to revise

We list the limits because a box that is wrong for the product costs more than a lost order. If your case sits in the right-hand column, we will quote the alternative instead.

Sampling

Request a rigid box sample.

Tell us the finished size, what goes inside and the market you ship to. If the construction is new we cut a plain white sample first so you can check the fit before any print money is spent.

Sample cost is quoted separately and credited against the first production order of 1,000 pcs or more.

We use your details only to answer this enquiry.

Questions we answer daily

Rigid box FAQ

Can the box ship flat to save freight?

Yes, the wrap and the greyboard shell can be shipped flat and assembled at your end, which cuts container volume substantially. The trade-off is that hand assembly moves to your warehouse, and a badly assembled corner shows on the shelf. We quote both ways so you can see the freight against the labour.

What artwork file do you need?

A PDF/X-4 export at 1:1 with 3 mm bleed, CMYK, fonts outlined, and a separate dieline layer. Pantone references should be named in the file. If you only have a flat JPG of the current box, send it — we will produce a dieline and confirm the layout before print.

Is the magnet strong enough for retail?

We specify the magnet grade per box size and test the pull on the pre-production sample. For a box that is opened repeatedly in-store, a single magnet on a 2.5 mm lid is usually not enough and we add a second or switch to a neck box.

Do you handle the export cartons and pallets?

Yes. Boxes are packed in 5-ply cartons with corner protection and, where the destination requires it, ISPM 15 heat-treated pallets. We provide the packing list with CBM and gross weight per carton so your forwarder can book without a second round of questions.

Can we reorder the same box later without new tooling?

Yes. The dieline, the print plates and the sample you approved are kept on file, so a repeat order skips structural development. We confirm the board and paper stock before restarting, because mill availability changes the price more than anything else.

Need a price, not a sample?

Send the size, board, print and quantity in one message and the reply carries a quotation with FOB Shenzhen and a lead-time window.
